Introduction

We specialize in the histopathology of gastrointestinal (GI) tumors. Our groundbreaking work includes the identification of intraductal papillary mucinous tumors in the liver, as highlighted in our publication in Hepatology (2021). Additionally, we have conducted research on therapeutic biomarkers and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) across various cancer types. We have also conducted studies to subclassify gastric cancers using simple immunohistochemical techniques and EBV in situ hybridization.

In the field of molecular pathology, we leverage tumor heterogeneity to identify novel biomarkers that predict resistance to proton treatment. We also explore potential therapeutic agents through CMap analysis. Molecular characterization of signaling pathways is essential for precision medicine, enabling us to tailor targeted therapies based on the molecular profile of each disease.

Our immunology research focuses on understanding the permissive conditions for generating regulatory T cells using a transgenic mice model. More recently, we are investigating their role in the tumor immune microenvironment using CODEX techniques and single-cell analysis.

Currently, we are integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into our daily pathology workflow. AI is instrumental in triaging high-risk cases for pathologists, optimizing efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, we are utilizing AI to predict the response of hepatocellular carcinoma to immunotherapy, enhancing our ability to personalize treatment strategies.
